The Dave Brubeck Quartet

The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival is proud to present Jazz icon Dave Brubeck and the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

Dave Brubeck is a member of that charmed circle of improvising artists whose popularity is commensurate with his musical accomplishments. The first jazz figure ever to make the cover of Time, Brubeck (b. 1920) has for nearly half a century been a major jazz figure.

Dave Brubeck has long served as proof that creative jazz and popular success can go together. From nearly the start, Brubeck enjoyed utilizing poly-rhythms and poly-tonality (playing in two keys at once). He had classical training from his mother, but fooled her for a long period by memorizing his lessons and not learning to read music.

He achieved popular success with the Dave Brubeck Quartet with the 1959 album ‘Time Out’, which reached platinum status on the strength of the original compositions in unusual time signatures. His latest album Indian Summer finds the jazz great at the piano, pouring out over a half century worth of emotion, experience, and pure musical genius.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet is: Dave Brubeck (piano), Randy Jones (drums), Michael Moore (bass), and “Bobby” Militello (sax, flute).
